Giovani Bronckhorst stood at the head of Feyenoord earlier than anticipated. He had to take over the team after the end of the current season, but the club`s management decided to release the earlier coach Fred Ruten.
Ruten was released after the loss with a 0:3 of Zwolle, which prevented the Feyenoord to secure an automatic place in the Europa League next season.
Feyenoord failed to win any of the last five games of the regular season and eventually finished fourth, by allowing him to beat AZ Alkmaar.
The 40-year-old van Bronckhorst started his career in Feyenoord, then playing at Glasgow Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona. He returned to Dutch Club, after leaving Camp Nou in 2007. Van Bronckhorst stepped into the role of an assistant coach, and terminate his professional career in 2010.
