River Plate dropped out of the Copa Libertadores

The defending champion River Plate (Argentina) was dropped on eight of the football tournament for Copa Libertadores. The Argentine team beat Independiente del Valle (Ecuador) with 1:0 at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires, but failed to overcome the liabilities of two goals from the first leg in Quito.

Four former champions have reached the quarterfinals of the tournament, Atletico Nacional (Colombia), Club Nacional (Uruguay) and the Brazilian Sao Paulo and Atletico Mineiro.
Atletico Mineiro sides Racing Club (Argentina) with 2:1. The first match finished with 0:0. The Brazilian Corinthians and Club Nacional (Uruguay) made it 2:2, but after 0:0 in the first meeting, the guests continue forward in the tournament because of more away goals scored.
Sao Paulo qualified for the quarterfinals after winning with a total score of both games 5:3 vs. Toluca (Mexico). The Brazilians won as hosts with 4:0 and lost the second leg with 1:3.
